ABOUT

Brisbane-based songstress Holly Terrens is kicking off 2016 with her new single release "Disaster Brings Me Home".

Introducing her music video: shot and directed by the burgeoning filmographer Adrian Goleby in Brisbane (with filming by Tomoko Izumi in Tokyo), and featuring singer/songwriter Konerico, it is a blend of big cities, smoke and fire, and a defiant and passionate Terrens as the leading lady.

This single stays true to Terrens’ core musical integrity, recently described by popular online blog Heavy and Weird thus:"The sound of Holly Terrens is not purely a nostalgia trip because she also leans equally on more modern pop music icons ... that manage to occupy a unique place within the current lexicon because of the way they make immediate yet challenging music."

This new release, a collaboration with Japanese band Colobs, is no exception. It takes a gutsy and adventurous spirit to make a solo move to a foreign country to follow a passion - this is exactly what Terrens did in 2014. This led to a chance meeting with Colobs producer and synth player D.D. at a live house in Shimokitazawa, where both acts performed in late 2013, and were subsequently interviewed by Mona Records (Japan) for a live stream on their internet radio station.

Terrens piqued the interest of UK’s Prog Magazine who described her as the ‘talented progressive pop singer/songwriter from Brisbane’ and ’this is what Radiohead’s Thom Yorke might sound like if he had been born female!’. This followed hot on the heels of her guest appearance on piano and flute on the Caligula's Horse track "Dragonfly", from the progressive rock titan's critically-acclaimed third album Bloom.

"Disaster Brings me Home" retains these features with the addition of electronic elements and the collaboration with a Japanese vocalist. A completely unique experience, sharing the studio with people who don’t speak the same language - it is an exciting concept to release a track in which a story is told in two languages.

Terrens will be returning to Japan later this year, accompanied by Goleby (who in his "other life" as a guitarist for Irukandji, bassist for Arcane, and composer in his own right, is a very exciting recent addition to the Holly Terrens Band lineup), where they will produce new music with D.D., and perform live in Tokyo.

In the meantime, Terrens will be launching the single with her band at the Bearded Lady (West End, Brisbane) this Valentine's Day evening, Sunday the 14th of February. She and Goleby will be joined on stage by her usual suspects - Dave Couper on bass (also renowned for his bass work in Caligula's Horse), and Josh Griffin on drums (ex-Incredible Kicks, and a frighteningly great all-round musician). They will be supported on the night by Phoebe Sinclair and Aislinn Sharp respectively.

The single is now available for digital sale on Bandcamp.com, and the clip is on Youtube and Japanese video platform NicoNico.
